Post-traumatic Growth in Adult Children Bereaved by Suicide

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the post-traumatic growth process of children bereaved by parental suicide.

Methods: For the purpose of understanding the experience of bereavement, adult men and women over the age of 18 who met the selection criteria were recruited, and a total of 11 participants were selected for interview. Data were analyzed using the grounded theory approach in qualitative research.

Results: As a result, 157 concepts, 49 subcategories, and 19 categories were derived. The post-traumatic growth process of children bereaved by suicide was found to be explained by give stages including awareness, suffering, facing, resolving, and disclosure. The core category was derived as ¡°living as oneself by breaking away from chaos¡±.

Conclusions: This study examined the life experiences and post-traumatic growth process of adult children bereaved by suicide of parents. The results of this study will serve as the basis for efficient family counseling intervention for children who suffer bereavement due to loss of a parentd by suicide.
